Food and Drug Administration’s (FDA) investigation reveals lead-tainted cinnamon applesauce, with levels thousands of times higher than recommended. 65 children with elevated lead levels reported after consuming recalled brands.

FDA closes its inspection of Ecuadorian companies involved but continues investigations into lead levels in other foods. Ongoing collaboration with Ecuadorian officials to determine the source of contamination.

While the contaminated cinnamon appears limited to recalled applesauce products, increased screening for imported cinnamon continues. The FDA emphasizes the issue may not extend beyond the recalled items. Parents and caretakers are urged to consult healthcare providers if lead exposure is suspected, as it can lead to severe health consequences in children.
