  • Reading time:1 mins read

The Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has confirmed the detection of a new outbreak of infections caused by E. coli O157:H7. The agency made the announcement on April 17, initiating traceback efforts to determine the source of the outbreak. At present, the FDA has identified nine patients affected by the outbreak, although details regarding their demographics and locations have not been disclosed.

Concurrently, the FDA continues to investigate an ongoing outbreak of Salmonella Typhimurium infections, with the number of affected individuals now totaling 12. Similar to the E. coli outbreak, traceback efforts are underway to identify the source of the Salmonella contamination. However, the specific food or foods implicated in either outbreak have yet to be determined.

As the investigations progress, the FDA emphasizes that no sampling or site inspections have commenced as part of these outbreak investigations. Further updates will be provided as additional information becomes available.
