The FDA has issued a warning about several ground cinnamon products found to contain elevated levels of lead, posing potential health risks to consumers. The affected brands include La Fiesta, Marcum, MK, Swad, Supreme Tradition, and El Chilar, sold at various retailers.
Testing revealed lead levels ranging from 2.03 to 3.4 parts per million in these products. The FDA advises consumers to stop using and discard these products immediately. Prolonged exposure to lead-contaminated foods can lead to serious health issues, particularly in young children and individuals with existing elevated lead exposure.
The agency urges consumers to report any adverse reactions to lead exposure from these products to the FDA’s MedWatch Safety Information and Adverse Event Reporting Program. While no illnesses or adverse events have been reported so far, the FDA emphasizes the importance of avoiding consumption of these contaminated ground cinnamon products to prevent potential health risks.
