Six Children in France Affected by Illness Linked to Raw Milk Cheese

  • Reading time:1 mins read

A raw milk cheese linked to E. coli infections, including six cases of Hemolytic Uremic Syndrome (HUS) causing kidney failure, has been identified in France.

French authorities initiated a withdrawal and recall of raw milk cheeses, including morbier, raclette, and tomme, manufactured by Route des Terroirs. Investigations found a link between the illnesses and Morbier cheese from the company, leading to the suspension of its marketing approval and halting production.

Health authorities advise against consuming raw milk and cheeses made from raw milk, especially for young children, pregnant women, and immunocompromised individuals. Those experiencing symptoms of E. coli infection, including severe stomach cramps and diarrhea, should seek medical attention, as complications can lead to severe kidney failure and other life-threatening issues.
